Hello from Bremerton! Two months into the missionary year, I've finally found a rhythm of life that allows me time to write out a new blog post. Thank you all for your prayers and patience, I'm so excited to share some of the top hits from my life the past two months!
After spending a month going through formation, we have been sent out! We went through a beautiful ceremony wherein which we received our ministries that we will be in charge of, a virtue that we will each strive to better live out over the next year, and a few Saint friends to guide our ways. So that you can better pray for us in our ministries, here is what we've each been assigned:
Jacoby: Teen Confirmation
Hunter: High School Discipleship
Dan (me): Young Adult Ministry
We each have also been claimed by patron saints, one for our missionary house, a Marian title for the year, and two Saints who will guide us.
Missionary House Saints: Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Joseph the Worker
My Saints for the Year: St. Gemma Galgani and St. Paula of Rome
We were absolutely blessed to be joined by many of our friends who made the trip up to witness our blessing and prayer. Thank you all for praying for us as we went through this period of formation!
This year I was so blessed to be able to serve as the Green Shirt Coordinator for the IgniteNW Catholic Youth Conference! This was such an incredible experience. While I may not have slept much (I think the final total coming out to 6.5 hours), Our Lord was very gracious in His outpouring of the Spirit and graces. Some hits of the week include our golf cart breaking (meaning we got to fly down a massive hill with no brakes!), getting to meet consecrated religious sisters, monks, brothers and priests from around the world, and reconnecting with close friends of mine through the conference. There are very few places in the world where our youth are able to experience men and women who have devoted their lives to Christ in such special ways, and even fewer where there is a ratio of 1 consecrated religious for every 10 youth. Praised be Jesus Christ! I can't thank the IgniteNW conference team enough for the opportunity to serve in this capacity, as well as all the young adults who volunteered on my team. We had a record 26 Greenshirt Volunteers this year! Without them, the conference wouldn't have run half as smooth as it did, and their constant witness of their love for God gave true testimony to each of the high school youth they encountered. The memories from this conference have been sealed in my heart, and I carry each moment with me on the road to Christ.
To close out our week of Altar Boy Bootcamp, I got to drive 7 boys up to Ft. Warden in Port Townsend. I am now known to my group affectionately as "Dan the Van Man."
One of the best things we've added to our home, Jacoby has gotten us an Espresso Machine! While we may not be very good at Latte art, we definitely get our coffee in now!
We really will sleep anywhere! When Jacoby and I attended the Encounter Summer Intensive, we stayed the night in the garage of a Catholic Young Men's home on cots!
Fr. Nehnevaj may have won the "Coolest Priest Ever" award when he came in the full Cassock and Faschia to bless the missionary house. Thank you Father! Devil begone!
When visiting the Tacoma Zoo, Hunter couldn't quite see the sea otters above the water, so I gave him a boost! This was followed by laughs from everyone in the viewing area!
Apparently I can now! In preparation for the 8th Grade Retreat I learned how to sew vestments! I made a Cope for my St. Ambrose of Milan costume!
Christianity begins with this question! In a Bible Study led by Hunter, we faced our own responses to this question. Each day we are asked this question by Christ, and each day we have the opportunity to once again respond to Him. Do we love Him? If our answer is yes, then we are called to feed and care for His flock in all that we do.
In my own personal biblical studies, I have felt very called to better hear the voice of the Lord. Whether it's through the gentle nudge toward Ignation Spiritual Exercises, or through the dreams of friends around me, I keep feeling pulled toward Samuel, and his call to prophecy. May my response echo his: "Here I am Lord!"
Prayer is essential to our relationship with the Lord! Please let me know how we can pray for you in the form below, we will pray for the intentions in our Daily Liturgy of the Hours!
